What We Believe

At Shiloh, we believe in hope. We believe that tomorrow can be better than today and that with God’s help we can achieve and rise farther than we ever thought possible.

Because we are a United Methodist community of faith, we stand in the long history of the church, and particularly the Wesleyan Protestant movement of the Church. That means:

We affirm the scriptural authority of the Old and New Testaments as the foundation of our belief and our life.
We affirm our belief in God as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, the 3 ways God has chosen to be revealed to us.
We affirm Jesus, the son of Mary and Joseph of Nazareth, to be the Son of God. We affirm our belief that he is the Messiah, the Anointed One, and the Savior of the world. We affirm his complete godliness and his complete humanity. We affirm that Jesus the Christ is the way, the truth, and the life.
We affirm that Jesus’ sacrifice through torture and death on a cross is the turning point of God’s revealing himself to humanity, and through that act all can be saved who believe.
We affirm the role of Holy Spirit in the lives of believers to comfort, guide, empower, and strengthen.
We affirm our belief that all followers of Jesus Christ are spiritually gifted and called to ministry, and that from the time of our acceptance of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior we are called to be partners in the building of God’s kingdom.
We affirm our belief that the church was called into being by Jesus as the instrument through which his message as well as the enacting of his message is to take place. We believe followers of Christ are called into the church as the way of living out their Christian life, until Christ returns.
We affirm our belief that we have been given free will from God to make choices in our lives, including the choice to accept or reject him, his son, and his call upon our lives. We also affirm our belief in a judgment at the end of all things, and that our earthly choices have eternal significance. We affirm the belief in heaven, and hell.

We believe in a gospel which is, literally, GOOD NEWS. We believe in being positive, enthusiastic, committed, and looking forward, because we believe in a great and gracious God, who loves us and cares for us, and seeks the very best for us!
